The Molitime orphans are well taken care of by Aganang

Boitumelo (Left) and Dudu (Right) doing laundry for the Molotime* orphans

The home has a sense of loneliness when  we approached the house we are greeted by two kids one pushing a brick and making car sounds by the sound of it that is a bus "Vrrrrroooom!! eeeeek....psssshs" he stops and looks at us an is wondering why we are there he runs to Lerato as it seems she is a familiar face. The girl seems to be not interested with our presence she continues to portray cooking a meal with sand and water. "What are you doing ?" Lerato quizzes "I'm baking a cake" she responds subtly.

There is a makeshift window n the other side that keeps banging when the wind blows stuffed with plastic bags and cardboard Aganang is expecting some donations from the local building material shops who have been talking to them about rebuilding the home as the one room collapsed and has never been fixed since the parents passing.

Aganang ensures the kids are bathed and have eaten they have an older sister who is in grade 11 who is given an opportunity to also study while the members take turns on cooking and doing the laundry they have been assisting mme Kgomo* who is the guardian for the children and had been struggling to make ends meet for them until Aganang assisted her in approaching the right channels to acquire a foster grant for the children to make ends meet and to buy them some essentials.

Their story has touched everyone in the community and the next phase is to demolish the ruins of their home and to renovate their home as that will help them have better memories, it will take time however with the wait Aganang is making it a better experience.

*The names changed to protect the kids and family.

Aganang NPO are advocates of healthy living.

A member of Aganang mopping one of the houses included on the cleanliness is close to Godliness campaign.

It had been one of the most labouring weekends for the Aganang Home Based Care team as they went about cleaning a couple of senior citizens homes. "We care about the healthy living of our of the elderly and we always give them first priority when launching our campaigns, so with this program we are looking to engage with a few cleaning companies to assist with their supplies so that we can try maybe expand this to two days in a week as you know cleanliness is  closer to Godliness and it improves the health of our elders" said Lerato Lethoko who has been appointed to lead the campaign.

The campaign has been welcomed by the community and the school principal at Mamogwai Secondary School has pledged his support for the campaign and has selected a group of learners who will also run a few errands for the elderly this will be small things like going to buy bread for them as they are unable to walk the distance of a local shop.

The program will continue for the better part of the year and the Aganang team are confident it will gain momentum and bring in more interested parties to assist with donations and the cleaning supplies for them to be able to clean more homes and to sustain the program.

"We urge the community to bring in more ideas and to suggest on points that we might be missing as you know it takes a village to do anything and to achieve certain goals we cannot do it on our own" - Stressed Nthabiseng Lethoko of the executive members of the organization.

Senior citizens matter

To her it was going to be the same old birthday ritual where she will run her errands in the house and then make herself a cup of rooibos tea and sit on her mat by the veranda. Little did she know that the members of Aganang had a pleasant surprise for her.

James Motsamai and the team invaded Kate' house and did what we call some spring cleaning - the house was turned upside down and all the windows and curtains were washed for her pots were scraped and  a small luncheon was prepared  "this was her 92nd birthday and we felt we needed to make it special, she is a lonely lady who stays alone and when she mentioned it in passing that she was growing a year older we couldn't resist doing something small for her"

The team brought plenty of gifts including blankets since it is Autumn "Kate will be well armed for the winter season and as the mission of the organization is to protect and care for our senior citizens we have met our mandate here" chuckled James.

"I am over the moon I could have not imagined my day turning out the way it did I'm grateful that the team from Aganang Home Based Care thought of me today, I don't even remember the last time I had some cake" Said Kate smiling.

Aganang reaps what they sow

Human Rights Day was yet another day at the office for Aganang Home Based Care a Non Profit Organizaton based in a small village of Dinokana which is 29 Kilo Meters out of the town Zeerust in the North West.

The ladies and gentlemen gathered in the wee hours to fine tune their crops as part of their feed-a- home project, they ensure that what is planted at community centre is given to nearby members of the community for small donations to keep the project going.

Mathsidiso Lethoko one of the longest serving members said that "It is always a struggle to get partnerships for this project, however with the grace of God we keep pushing and the crops just keep on growing to our surprise the was a time when we had a bit of drought and we had to collect water from a neighbouring village by donkey cart  that was a challenge we overcame as an organization and I'm grateful for every member that pulled together"

Aganang Home Based Care does not only have gardening projects they also assist senior citizens with day to day chores like going to the clinic for medication pick ups and to do laundry for them once a week. " I am very lucky to have such a caring community since my grandchildren live far from here and only come once in a while, I appreciate the work done by this wonderful group of men and women who give up their time to ensure we are clean and healthy" said Mme Lerato Tlokotsi a pensioner in the Dinokana community.

The Project has been gaining momentum and has been a success as now they can plant different things from Spinach, Tomatoes, Potatoes and Cabbage. They are now looking to expand into starting a section for fruits and they hope with the partnership of the community centre about to unfold that it will help them get more people involved.

All we can say Aganang Home Based Care is building something one crop at a time!

Follow them on their social media profiles and get updated on their future events.
